The mother of Christ, who, in the previous poem, had been represented as a virgin and a martyr, is here described as a pure and tender creature, who, in the midst of the miraculous event, does not cease to mourn for her lost spouse, Joseph.

The second poem, which contains verses 14?I9-14?20, is a brief dialogue between the mother and her infant.

The third, comprising verses 14?21-14?22, describes the adoration of the shepherds, in two strophes of two verses each.

The last poem, made up of verses 14?23-14?24, is a monologue of the child, who, in the midst of his glory, thinks of his mother, and of the sorrows she had to endure.

These four poems are all in the first person, and the last verse of each strophe is identical.
