George Orwell was a British writer and journalist who is best known for his novels Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four. Orwell was born in India to British parents but was sent to England to be educated. He returned to India to work as a policeman but was forced to resign after a few years due to health problems. Orwell then moved to London to become a writer. He wrote for various publications and was a prolific essayist. His first novel, Animal Farm, was published in 1945. Nineteen Eighty-Four, his most famous novel, was published in 1949. Orwell died of tuberculosis in 1950.
