A Curious Beginning

A Curious Beginning is the first book in the Veronica Speedwell series by Deanna Raybourn. The book was published on February 3, 2015 by Berkley Books.

The book introduces the characters of Veronica Speedwell and Stoker Templeton. Veronica is a young woman who has recently lost her only relative, her aunt. She is now alone in the world and must make her own way. She decides to become a naturalist, and sets out to find a position with a collector of rare insects.

Stoker is a young man who has just inherited a large estate from his uncle. He is also now the owner of a rare blue butterfly, which he acquired from Veronica. Stoker is not sure what he wants to do with his life, but he knows he wants to find out more about Veronica.

The two team up to solve a mystery involving a dead body and a stolen painting. Along the way, they will discover that they have more in common than they ever could have imagined.

A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn earned the number one spot in the New York Times Bestsellers list for October 18, 2015.
