Joe Abercrombie is a British fantasy writer, editor and film producer. He is best known for his First Law Trilogy. His first novel, The Blade Itself, was published in 2004 and was followed by two sequels, Before They Are Hanged and Last Argument of Kings. The trilogy was adapted into a television series, The First Law, which aired on Sky1 in 2011.

Abercrombie was born in Lancaster, England, in 1974. He studied psychology at the University of Sheffield. After graduation, he worked as a freelance editor and journalist. He also wrote several comedy scripts for television. In 2000, he began working on his first novel, The Blade Itself. The book was published in 2004 and was an instant success.
