The book follows the story of Meg Murry, a young girl who travels through time and space to save her brother from an evil force. The novel won the Newbery Medal in 1963 and has been adapted into a film, television series, and stage play.

Madeleine L’Engle was born in 1918 in New York City. She was a prolific writer, with more than 60 books to her credit, including novels, poetry, nonfiction, and children’s books. L’Engle passed away in 2007 at the age of 89.
