The Quarter Quell is a special Hunger Games that is much more difficult than the regular Hunger Games. The tributes are chosen randomly, and they are forced to compete in a arena that is full of deadly traps. Katniss and Peeta are the only tributes from their district, and they are quickly outnumbered and outmatched by the other tributes.

Despite the odds, Katniss and Peeta manage to survive the Quarter Quell. In the end, only Katniss and one other tribute are left alive. Katniss is declared the winner, but she is horrified when she realizes that the other tribute is Peeta.
