There is nothing special about the characters of Cress.

“I’m not a huge fan of Cress,” Rebecca Soler told me, but it was her voice I heard in the character’s first appearance in the book, when she’s having a nightmare. She’s a fan of the series, so when Marissa called her, she was super excited, but she didn’t expect to be asked to record the book.

“I was thinking, ‘Well, I’ll read a little bit of it,’” she said. “But then she was like, ‘No, read all of it.’”

It would be a nine-hour recording session.

“I was like, ‘Are you sure?’” Soler remembered. “I’m not a professional. I’m just a fan.”

Soler was up for the challenge. She loved the character, and the book.

“I’m a huge fan of the series,” she said. “I’ve read all the books.”
