Desperation

A desolate Nevada town, where tumbleweeds may be the most animate things around, holds within its skeletal structure secrets far darker and more nefarious than one could fathom. In this clandestine setting, the Audiobook Desperation unfurls its macabre tale, where Stephen King’s velvety voice, akin to a dark spell, guides the listeners through the shadowed paths.

Enter Officer Collie Entragian, the imposing law enforcer in Desperation, whose initial veneer of lawful authority withers away to expose a sinister incarnation of evil. The happenstance arrival of the Carver family, who were just traveling through Nevada, marks the inception of a nightmarish encounter with Entragian. David, the young and precocious son of the Carvers, starts receiving messages from God. He, along with his family, is imprisoned by Entragian, who exhibits symptoms of an eerie and unexplained affliction.

Meanwhile, an ensemble of multifaceted characters converges in Desperation, each ensnared by the ominous machinations of the rogue cop. John Marinville, a famed writer with a shadowed past and a motorcycle as his steed, ends up in the dragnet along with his compatriot, Steve Ames. A hitchhiker, Cynthia Smith, and an aging couple, the Jacksons, further populate this strange tableau. Through serpentine turns, they all are caged like hapless birds in Entragian’s desolate menagerie.

As the group commences their strife against the malevolent force that is Collie Entragian, they discover that his demonic manifestation is an offshoot of an ancient, abominable entity named Tak, which has taken residence in the old China Pit copper mine in town. The malefic spirit of Tak, capable of body possession and unspeakable atrocities, seeks release and dominion.

David Carver’s nascent connection to a higher power becomes pivotal as the desperate band of prisoners look towards him for salvation. Through trials that would rattle the foundation of their very souls, they unite to face the abomination, drawing strength from their shared humanity. The shimmering gem that is The Dark Tower I, is also produced by King and the electrifying brilliance of The Shining is also due to the same author.
