Invisible Man

The Invisible Man was published on February 26, 1897. It has sold more than 12 million copies and has been translated into more than 50 languages. People generally review it positively, with many calling it a classic of science fiction.

Ralph Ellison was an American writer and scholar best known for his novel Invisible Man, which won the National Book Award in 1953. Ellison’s other notable works include the short story “Battle Royal,” the essay “Invisible Man,” and the posthumously published novel Juneteenth.

The novel is about a young black man who, after a series of harrowing experiences, realizes that he is invisible to the world around him. As he tries to make his way in a society that does not see him, he comes to understand the true nature of power and injustice. The novel is a powerful indictment of racism and a moving exploration of what it means to be invisible in a world that does not see you.
