The novel Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of Charlotte Bronte. The novel was first published in 1847 under the male pseudonym Currer Bell and is considered one of the most famous novels of the 19th century. The novel has been reprinted several times and has been translated into numerous languages.

The novel describes the life of the main character – Jane Eyre. Jane is an orphan who was taken in by her cruel aunt, Mrs. Reed, after the death of her parents. The girl grows up in a hostile family environment and learns to be strong and independent. When Jane becomes a teenager, she is sent to Lowood School where she faces many adversities and also meets good friends. After leaving school, Jane is hired as a teacher at Thornfield. Soon she falls in love with the owner of the house, the dark and mysterious Mr. Rochester.

But their happiness is short-lived as Rochester is already married. Heartbroken, Jane decides to leave and start a new life. But she is soon faced with another challenge as Rochester’s mad wife escapes from the attic and sets fire to Thornfield. Rochester loses his eyesight in the fire and is forced to leave.
