Sean Parnell is an American politician and former United States Army Ranger who served as the 10th governor of Alaska from 2006 to 2009. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1992 and served two terms before being elected to the Alaska Senate in 1996. He was elected governor in 2006 and served one term, losing reelection in 2008 to Sarah Palin.

John Bruning is an American author and military historian. He is the author of several books on military history, including Outlaw Platoon, which chronicles his experiences as a United States Army officer in Afghanistan. Bruning has also written for The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
