The Fall of Hyperion is a sequel to the novel Hyperion, and continues the story of the struggle against the forces of the Ouster Swarm. The book is divided into three parts, each told from the perspective of a different character.

The first part, “The Watcher at the Gates of Dawn”, is told from the point of view of Father Paul Dure, a Jesuit priest and former soldier. Father Dure is sent by the Church to the planet Hyperion to investigate the activities of the Shrike Cult.
