The Fifth Witness is a legal thriller novel by Michael Connelly, published in 2011. It is the fifth novel featuring defense attorney Mickey Haller, and is a sequel to The Reversal (2010).
The novel follows Haller as he defends a young mother accused of killing her infant daughter. As the case progresses, Haller finds himself up against both the prosecution and the LAPD, who are determined to see his client convicted. Meanwhile, Haller’s own personal life is in turmoil, as his ex-wife and daughter move back in with him and his relationship with his former girlfriend, prosecutor Maggie McPherson, comes to an end.
