About the Author. Agatha Christie was born in 1890 and created the detective Hercule Poirot in her debut novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920). She went on to write 33 Poirot novels, 19 Miss Marple novels and many other works, becoming the best-selling novelist of all time as well as a renowned playwright, short story writer and travel writer. She died in 1976.
