The Silmarillion is a collection of J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythopoeic works, edited and published posthumously by his son Christopher Tolkien in 1977. It is considered a prequel to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, and takes place in Middle-earth, the world inhabited by the characters of The Lord of the Rings. The Silmarillion tells the story of the First Age of Middle-earth, before the time of The Lord of the Rings, and introduces the characters and events that lay the groundwork for that story. The book is structured as a series of interconnected tales, with each chapter telling a different story. The Silmarillion is a complex and sometimes dark work, filled with tragedy and loss, but ultimately it is a story of hope and redemption.
