J.K. Rowling was born in 1965 in Yate, England. She attended St. Michael’s Primary School in Fulham and, later, the all-girls’ Methodist High School in Bristol. In her teens, she began writing fantasy stories, which she would continue to do throughout her life. In 1990, she moved to Portugal to teach English. It was there that she met and married Jorge Arantes. The couple had one child, a daughter named Jessica, before they divorced in 1995.

In 1993, Rowling finished her first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. She originally submitted the manuscript to twelve different publishers, all of whom rejected it. Finally, Bloomsbury agreed to publish the book, and it was released in 1997. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was an instant success, and Rowling became a household name.

The following year, she published the second book in the series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, was published in 1999. The fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was published in 2000. The fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, was published in 2003

The Tales of Beedle the Bard was written by J.K. Rowling as a gift to the children of her editors, who helped her publish the Harry Potter series.
